Materials Archive
Every object is designed for longevity and reuse.
From glass and aluminium to fragrance and paper, each material is selected for permanence, function and restraint. Produced in limited quantities and shaped by specialised hands, the materials of Gorgeous Nothings reflect the quiet authority of the atelier.
We work in close partnership with specialist ateliers and makers, refining our processes over time — pursuing precision, reducing waste, and improving quietly where improvement is possible.
01. Glass
The glass vessel and funnel are produced in clear, high clarity glass selected for stability and longevity. Glass is chosen for its neutrality, durability and ability to preserve fragrance without interference. Each piece is designed to be kept permanently and reused over time, forming the foundation of the Volume I collection.
02. Glass Blowing
The stopper is hand blown individually by specialised glass artisans. Each piece carries natural variation in form and finish — a record of heat, breath and hand. No two stoppers are identical. This process allows the object to age with character, rather than uniformity.
03. Glass Etching
Each stopper is hand engraved with the house signature. The engraving is executed individually, producing subtle irregularities that distinguish every piece. This mark serves not as decoration, but as authorship.
04. Upcycled Ethanol
Our ethanol is derived from upcycled sugarcane molasses where available, alongside carefully controlled bio-fermentation processes designed to optimise resource use and reduce waste. Selected for its purity and stability, it preserves the integrity of the composition while supporting a more circular material system.
05. Paper
All printed materials are produced in Italy using paper made exclusively from annual plants. The composition is 75 percent bamboo and 25 percent cotton linters, reducing pressure on forests while maintaining exceptional fibre quality. The result is a smooth, natural surface with a soft touch finish and high performance in printing. The paper is produced using renewable energy and offset for unavoidable emissions. It is FSC™ certified, recyclable and biodegradable. The cotton used is certified pre-consumer.
06. Upcycled Silk
Silk pouches are produced from surplus and archival silk. By working with existing textiles, we reduce waste while preserving the tactile qualities of natural fibre. Each piece carries subtle variation in weave, tone and age.
07. Upcycled Fragrance
I Eau de Parfum is composed using 95.1 percent upcycled fragrance concentrate — the highest known percentage in modern perfumery. This approach allows the reuse of rare and high quality aromatic materials while maintaining olfactive integrity and longevity.
08. Aluminium
The fragrance refill is presented in aluminium. Aluminium is selected for its durability, recyclability and ability to preserve fragrance stability over time. This format extends the life of the glass vessel and reduces the need for repeated primary packaging.
